To establish a new method of expressing tensions of time and cultural heritage, the traditional handcraft has been reconstructed to create looks that combine the present and the past. “Velvet flower” from Nanjing exemplifies Silk Fur, an innovative method of imitating fur through embroidery that was playfully reconstructed using traditional Chinese handcraft techniques.
The collection interprets the timeless theme of Mother of Nature with pop culture
and references animalistic textures as well as insect colours and silhouettes to generate bright and unambiguous looks, while evoking fashion memories from the exaggerated 1980s. Silk was chosen as the primary material for the look, and cultural significance was prominent throughout the entire design process. All of the silk materials were sourced from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, both machine and hand embroidery methods were employed to create exuberantly furry texture. Each thread has been brushed hundred times to bring out the new touch and story.
