These awards are given by Hand & Lock and chosen by a specialist panel of independent expert judges. There are three winners in each of the four categories, 12 Hand & Lock Prize winners in total. Each year the judging panel reviews the first stage submissions and selects the finalists. A few months pass where these selected finalists can finesse their entry with the help of an industry mentor. At the Prize exhibition, live judging and Prize-giving the judges see the finished submissions and begin their final assessment. Considering both the final work and the entrant’s supporting materials, they score according to the entrants interpretation of the brief, their technical skill, their overall vision and wow factor.

Associate Awards are selected by Hand & Lock Prize sponsors and are independent of the main Hand & Lock Awards. Each different award will have it’s own specific eligibility and selection criteria. These awards can be selected from all submissions regardless of whether the entrant was selected for the Hand & Lock Prize. In some circumstances the entrant could win both an associate award and a Hand & Lock Prize award.
